Okay, so here is a Pop Culture Update on what I’m watching and reading. Remember, my intake of Pop Culture is purely for distraction. You will not find great American novels on this post, nor will you find ground-breaking cinema. Oh, no. You will find fluff and lots of it. That being said, here we go:
Movies: (side note: Hollywood, hello? What the heck? Can we at least try to make a decent movie here or there? Are we too busy trashing the Right-Winged Conservatives to pay attention to the crap we’re writing? Did we need another Deuce Bigalow movie? I think you know the answer.)
Just Like Heaven: This was as fluff as they come, completely unrealistic, and cheesy as all get out. I loved it!
The Wedding Date: This was as fluff as they come, completely unrealistic, and cheesy as all get out. I didn’t care much for it.
(You may be asking yourself at this point how I decide what fluff movies are good and which ones are sucky. If you are asking this question, you are clearly a boy.)
TV:
Arrested Development: This show is so good, and I have been bragging on it so much, that I think if, by now, you’re not watching it, you’re a moron. That may seem harsh, but I don’t mess around with TV, people.
The Office: Clearly the leader in uncomfortable comedy. It takes the mockumentary to the next level. Now, I have only previewed one episode from the British version. I will soon view the rest (We have it on our Netflix list), so I feel I will, then, be a ‘true’ fan.
Gilmore Girls: This is my warm and cozy, feel good show that I watch. Now, if we could get rid of Slutty Rory and bring back Good Rory, then I could really relax.
Reading: Authors
Sophie Kinsella: (British Chick Lit) The Shopaholic series, The Undomestic Goddess, Can you Keep a Secret?
MC Beaton: (Murder Mystery) The Agatha Raisin series
Meg Cabot: (Chick Lit) Anything from her, except her romance novels
Well, there you have it. I wish I could say there was more depth to my choices, but alas, I prefer to keep reality just that, reality.
